Sure, the movie was garbage, but it’s been a long time since ol’ pissed-off-face has gunned mafioso down in slow motion. Never fear, though- Rockstar today announced that Max Payne 3 is finally on the way!
I’m an unabashed huge fan of the series, and it’s so great to have a new title to look forward to. I played through the second one again recently and the old games still hold up… except of course, for the incredibly irritating dream sequences from the first. (Someone shut that baby up!)
As you can tell from the promo image, Max Payne has aged a bit.
“We’re starting a new chapter of Max’s life with this game,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “This is Max as we’ve never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation.”
He’s now no longer in the NYPD, and indeed, no longer in NYC at all… for the first time in the series. Both previous games reveled in their noir style and the city was a big part of adding to that… it’ll be interesting to see where he’s ended up. All we know is that “Max has drifted from bad to worse. Double-crossed and a long way from home, Max is now trapped in a city full of violence and bloodshed, using his weapons and instincts in a desperate search for the truth and a way out.”
Max Payne 3 hits Xbox 360, PS3 and PC this winter.
