Jaume Collet-Serra (House of Wax, 2005) is becoming to uber-producer Joel Silver what Michael Bay was to Jerry Bruckheimer, minus the blockbuster success, of course; Collet-Serra, who also has the impending Orphan due this summer via Silver’s Dark Castle banner at Warner Bros., has lined up his next project, Unknown White Male, yet again at Dark Castle with Silver overseeing production.
Details are sparse at this point, but the tale apparently revolves around a well-to-do physician on vacation in Berlin with his wife. The shit hits the fan when the good doctor and his wife get into a fender-bender of some sort, which puts the doctor into a coma. When he comes out of his vehicular-induced stupor the doctor discovers someone has assumed his identity, which then forces him to go on a journey to uncover the truth and reclaim his life.
The trades are reporting Karl Gajdusek (Dead Like Me) has banged out a draft on the project, meaning he’s probably left the movie and the script is still in need of some development. I’m betting Chad and Carey Hayes (House of Wax, 2005, The Reaping, Whiteout), Silver’s go-to-scribes as of late, are next on deck to overhaul the screenplay. That’s speculation on my part, but I’m betting it’s a good guess, especially when you consider they’ve already penned a Collet-Serra effort.
No reports of any stars attached at this point, either, so it’s a good bet we won’t be seeing this one until next year at the earliest.
