We’ve been hearing a lot recently about Sucker Punch, the movie that Zack Snyder will begin as soon as possible after his Watchmen press duties are done. Snyder has called it “Alice in Wonderland with machine guns,” and the ’60s-set story, featuring an all-female cast, centers around Baby Doll, “a young woman who has been committed to an insane asylum and fantasizes about escaping with the help of her fellow inmates, who take on fantastical roles in her mind.”
Now EW is reporting a big slate of negotiating actresses, with previously rumored Amanda Seyfried at the top of the list as Baby Doll. Also offered roles are Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Evan Rachel Wood, and Emma Stone.
No matter what happens with Watchmen, this makes me like Snyder, who is about to spend $100 million of Warner Brothers’ money on an all-girl fantasy-fulfillment picture. It’s a big-budget Russ Meyer movie, more or less, and that’s an amazing thing, especially in this climate. I really don’t care if it’s even good.
