Australia is a film that’s been unfairly maligned. Baz Luhrmann attempted to tell a period appropriate tale of love in the time of war. What most of America saw was a bloated epic that took melodrama to new heights. Melodrama isn’t a terrible thing. It’s just something that few people outside of Douglas Sirk have ever mastered. The DVD is weaksauce, as you only get some penny ante supplements. So, I hope you like two deleted scenes and a featurette about cattle ranching.

In the Electric Mist is an interesting detective story set in New Orleans. That’s about it. Sure, it’s based on the sixth book in a long-lived line of Detective Fiction. But, nobody feels the desire to tap on that rich history. You get a Cajun detective team-up, as Jones and Goodman try to make sense of what’s going down in the land of Fats Domino. The film was originally meant to be a theatrical release for late last year. When you the hour marker in this film, you’ll understand the dump to DVD. It’s a drawn-out story that ultimately goes nowhere.

Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic is such an ass-backwards way to go about adaptating a classic work. Whomever thought that having one narrator do all the voices and slap it together in a Pseudo Clutch Cargo style was out of their damn mind. Yet, it would’ve worked as a band-aid for the decades long wait for the inevitable film. It’s just that in its release months before the official film, it just seems to sub-par. If you do rent it, I hope you enjoy the Silk Spectre II voice.
