While it’s no Werewolf Bar Mitzvah (what is?), Thriller is on its way to the world of theaters. I skipped over this headline earlier today just because it was so ridiculous. But it’s true! Variety reports that James L. Nederlander (president of Nederlander Org) has picked up the theatrical rights for Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Yes, the video will be turned into a feature-length musical. James has also picked up tunes from the Thriller album as well as Jackson’s Off the Wall to ensure we’ve got plenty of Jackson. The plot will be the same as the video, such as it is, where a couple on a date is attacked by zombies.
Now of course John Landis’ original is thought by many to be one of the best music videos ever made, but the Filipino remake was far superior-
What could be done to possibly top this? Simple. Combine the above idea of inmates doing Thriller in a prison with Riki-Oh (Story of Ricky). Manga flavored prison fights with a dancing zombie outbreak- it’s just begging to be made.
There’s absolutely nothing done on the film just yet, not even a script, so don’t hold your breath for it.
