Despite being the sort of hulky model-type that I immediately distrust, I liked Chris Evans a lot in both Fantastic Four movies, where he was the one piece of the puzzle that fit perfectly. (The Chiklis Thing was a close second.) But it was Danny Boyle’s Sunshine that really made me an Evans fan; he made much more than I expected to see out of a character that could have been barely two-dimensional.
So I’m thrilled that Edgar Wright has thrown him into the mix for Scott Pilgrim vs The World. (via AICN) He’ll play movie star Lucas Lee, the second of many evil exes (spoiler!) that Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) must defeat to fully win the affections of Ramona (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). Lee is also a skateboarder, which leads to the part of the Lee/Pilgrim showdown that cemented my love for Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novel series in the first place. It’s a small part for Evans (as written in the second graphic novel, at least) but a tasty piece for Evans to play. I can’t wait to see what Edgar Wright does with his scenes.
