If you’re reading this, it’s probably because you’re a HUGE Colm Meaney fan. There can’t possibly be any other reason. The fact that Michael Gambon, Theresa Randle and Leslie Bibb have also been added to F. Gary Grays’ Law Abiding Citizen is, at this point, completely irrelevant.
It’s all about the extremely Irish Colm Meaney.
Some of you might know Mr. Meaney from his tough guy roles in Layer Cake, and the wild and rowdy The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns, but it’s his role as Chief O’Brien on Star Trek: The Next Generation and the subsequent Deep Space Nine snooze-fest that truly propelled him into the public conscience. This is how Colm works: he has his character introduced as a very minor officer then, because of his immense charisma, is able to establish the role as a recurring crew member. The reason Devin hates TNG so much is because he didn’t stay around long enough to witness the introduction of Colm, and that is his loss.
Anyway, Law Abiding Citizen is the tale of a band of killers who are released from prison early, while the man who’s family was murdered by the group seeks justice through the DA’s office. Even before Meaney was added the film boasted a pretty strong twosome of Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx, and now with Gambon, Bibb, Randle and you-know-who added, things are shaping up nicely as production is scheduled to begin on January 21st.
