I don’t know about you, but it seems a little silly to me that so many companies released their latest trailers at the Spike VGA. I don’t know one person that actually watched them. But how can you complain when you’re shown new footage of so many great games?

Case in point, the new trailer for Mafia II. Everything in this trailer was created using 2K Czech’s brand-spanking new next-gen engine.

Awesome, eh?

Unlike the first Mafia (which was set in the 20s and 30s) this one’s set right after WWII. You play as Vito Scaletta, who joined the military rather than go to jail for a robbery. He soon gets mixed in with the wrong (right?) crowd and starts to move his way up the family. They’ve made a lot of noise about the fact that there’s two hours of in game cutscenes here, which may make gamers groan in this age of Metal Gear Solid-like indulgence, but Mafia had an amazing, cinematic story. The sequel’s script (at 700 pages!) is twice the size of the first. Also expect a fantastic soundtrack and seamless travel with no loading- even when entering buildings.

While the Xbox and PS2 port of  the first game was pretty lackluster (it was made by a different company) 2K Czech is making this sequel specifically for the 360 and PS3. If it keeps things just as cinematic and fun as the original we’re in for a treat.
