With all of the riff-raff surrounding Platinum Dunes’ remake of Friday the 13th, their proposed update on A Nightmare on Elm St., and their as-of-the-moment aborted plans to overhaul Near Dark, I’d all but forgotten they had another film in the pipeline that was an original, other than The Unborn, of course. The film in question is The Horsemen, something I’m sorry to say I completely let slip my mind since the trades announced Dennis (I’m in need of a serious box office hit) Quaid was starring.
As you can see above, we have your first (second, really) look at the movie thanks to the gang over at Bad Taste. If you head on over there you can check out a gallery of over 40 pics that should steer you one way or another on whether or not you want to spend some $$ on this when it hits theaters.
After perusing the pics myself, I can’t say I saw anything that lit a fire under my ass to want to run out and see it, but the fact that it’s not a sequel or remake does pique my interest slightly; however, the last time Quaid was chasing a serial killer we wound up with Switchback (ugh!).
Starring Dennis Quaid, Clifton Collins, Jr., Ziyi Zhang, and Patrick Fugit, The Horsemen tells the tale of a recently widowed detective (Quaid) trying to come to terms with the recent death of his wife. While investigating a disturbing a rash of serial killings, the detective stumbles upon a shocking connection between himself, the slayings, and The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
As with most horror that isn’t a remake, sequel, based on a bestselling novel or comic book The Horsemen, as it stands right now, will be getting a limited release March 13/09 thanks to Lionsgate.
Here’s to hoping Lionsgate doesn’t do a hatchet job on The Horsemen like they did with The Midnight Meat Train.
