Among the handful of people who have seen the film, there’s been some concern that Observe and Report, the upcoming film by director Jody Hill (The Foot Fist Way) starring Seth Rogen as a draconian mall cop, might be too dark for Warner Brothers. Seth Rogen said two months ago that the studio hadn’t yet seen the film, but that he was confident it would go well.
“I don’t think they’ll ruin it,” Rogen told Devin in October.
“It’s so far in a direction that they’ll have to neuter it so much to
make it go the other direction that it would be just impossible, and I
think for them it’s not worth ruining the relationships they’d have to
ruin in order to do that.”
Now Frosty at Collider has spoken to Rogen about the film, and the word continues to be good. Actually, the word is really good. Rogen describes the current cut as “completely un-neutered.” More specifically, it is “exactly what we would want. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but for me, when I watch it, I can’t believe it. I mean, it’s like again it’s a marvel. To me it’s a marvel that a studio let us make that movie. And they really like it.”
From what I’ve been told, the idea that the studio really likes this cut is in fact remarkable. But that won’t matter in the comments section, where a lot of readers will just complain about WB leaving this film alone while forcing changes to Watchmen. Yawn.
