Man, there’s going to be a Hancock sequel while it looks unlikely that we’ll ever get a Hellboy 3. Shit just ain’t right in the world today.
Will Smith confirmed to JoBlo that Sony is talking about franchising his summer superhero movie, which did well at the box office but met with pretty mixed reactions. I don’t think I know a lot of people who really ‘loved’ this movie, so I wonder how excited folks will be for a sequel… or beyond.
JoBlo talked to Smith, who said there are ‘a lot of unexplored characters in the HANCOCK universe that would be ripe for a sequel.’ Why they didn’t write any of those characters into the weak second half of the movie is anybody’s guess.
The problems I have with Hancock will not be fixed in a sequel. I read a couple of scripts during this film’s evolution, and I liked what was on the page. It ventured into R-rated material that was interesting. But the final film is, in many ways, eviscerated. And any sequels won’t start life as R-rated scripts.
