I’m not some kind of Anglophile who uses words like shite all the time*, but when you say ‘mentalist’ to me, I immediately think of the Alan Partridge-coined usage of the term as ‘person with a mental disorder.’So the show The Mentalist makes me laugh whenever I hear the title.
The Mentalist is the new show from Bruno Heller, the creator of HBO’s Rome. And he’s talking to the Hollywood Reporter saying that he wants to go back to Ye Olde Rome and finish things up – in a movie.
“There is talk of doing a movie version,” he said. “It’s moving
along. It’s not there until it is there. I would love to round that
show off.”
Heller says that while Lucius appears to have died in the finale, it was left vague enough that he could be brought back. He also mentions that the movie might well be all about your buddy and mine, Jesus Christ.
“I discovered halfway through writing the second season the show
was going to end,” Heller said. “The second was going to end with
death of Brutus. Third and fourth season would be set in Egypt.
Fifth was going to be the rise of the messiah in Palestine. But
because we got the heads-up that the second season would be it, I
telescoped the third and fourth season into the second one, which
accounts for the blazing speed we go through history near the end.
There’s certainly more than enough history to go around.”
In the meantime, check out the awesome I, Claudius for a kick ass look at the same time frame.
