I think it’s fair to say that Prometheus was not a universally beloved film. Though it’s certainly a film worthy of discussion and debate, it wasn’t quite the return to the Alien universe that a lot of people desired. It looks like Ridley Scott and crew are wanting to be a little more direct with the next film in the series, going so far as to officially brand it an Alien movie. Well, it sounds like Alien: Covenant is doubling down on pleasing the fans with today’s bit of news.
Speaking with The Wrap, Ridley Scott revealed that all of the original creatures from Alien (“Egg, face-hugger, chest-burster, then the big boy.”) will be appearing in Prometheus 2: Alien 6. Though this definitely smells a little like putting Batman in your Superman sequel, I can’t deny some level of interest at letting Ridley Scott once again play with the monsters he helped make so incredibly famous.
Scott goes on to describe a little more about the plot of Alien: Covenant, and it sounds suspiciously like what we expected the story of Prometheus to be:
“They’re going to go to the planet where the engineers came from and come across the evolving creature that they had made. Why did they make it? Why would they make such a terrifying beast? It felt bio-mechanoid, it felt like a weapon. And so the movie will explain that, and reintroduce the alien back into it.”
Look, we’re all pretty much guaranteed to show up for whatever Alien movie they make at this point, so I say bring it on. I just hope someone at Fox doesn’t realize that they could start a shared universe with the Independence Day franchise. …I really hope no one at Fox reads this site.
