Sylvester Stallone is a victim of his own making. The quality of his output undergoes such enormous peaks and valleys. With this year’s Creed, Stallone has reached an all-time peak. So, it looks like he’s determined to toss his other beloved character, John Rambo, into a deep, deep valley.
Deadline reports that Stallone is signed on as executive producer and star of Rambo: New Blood for *gulp* Fox. If that doesn’t get you worried, how about that Rambo will have a long-lost son? …What? I don’t even know how to make sense of this ridiculous decision, especially since the final shot of Rambo (I like calling it by its on-screen title, John Rambo) is such a perfect closer to that character’s story. The idea of stuffing in some untold Rambo spawn is something I can’t see working. Maybe it can, but I just don’t see it.
Hopefully, this project will wither and die like the other potential Rambo V stories. I will give the TV show props if they manage to incorporate the idea for Rambo V: The Savage Hunt which featured Rambo hunting a genetically altered superbeast. Here’s the twist: the son is the genetically engineered superbeast. I’ve now come around to loving the idea of Rambo: New Blood.
