KongVGodzilla

The scoops have been true for a while now, but now it’s actually coming together. Ape and Lizard will clash again, this time in a shared universe of films that began with last year’s Godzilla.

This new Zillaverse will continue with Kong: Skull Island when it arrives on March 19, 2017. Skull Island will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and stars Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, and John Goodman.

Godzilla 2 will see the return of director Gareth Edwards and screenwriter Max Borenstein, and is currently set for release on June 8, 2018. I’m glad Edwards is coming back; I think the way he constructed sequences in Godzilla was absolutely mesmerizing. The poor guy will be totally pooped after he finishes Star Wars: Rogue One, though. Get your beauty sleep, Edwards. You’re gonna need it.

Then, on an unannounced date in 2020, we get the clash — Godzilla vs. Kong. Frankly, I can’t find it in myself to give a hoot about this one until Skull Island and Godzilla 2 come out. Even then, they’ve gotta be good and they’ve gotta make money. I think the latter is a given. The former remains to be seen.
