I think I’m in the minority when it comes to complaints about Dexter‘s last season; while I stuck around for the acting, a lot of the plotting drove me right up a wall. But season three has been gangbusters so far. Jimmy Smits is a great addition to the cast; his character has been playing off Dexter perfectly. (Unless they blew it in this week’s episode, which I haven’t watched yet.)
So I’m happy to see that Showtime agrees, and has already ordered up seasons four and five. That’s a tremendous vote of confidence for the show. Each season will be twelve episodes, with the fourth set to go into production in Spring 2009. But the pessimist in me wonders if five seasons might not be pushing it a bit. How far can Dexter’s particular plight be drawn out? A lot of that will have to do with how the balance of this season goes, and who discovers Dexter’s secret this time.
