Take this one with a grain of salt; a few days ago MTV ran some quotes from Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, the co-writers of Iron Man, about what they’d like to see in an Avengers movie. In short, they like the idea of the Hulk as the villain, which parrots what Hulk director Louis Leterrier said earlier this summer. The opinion of Fergus and Otsby is given more credence than most because they might be writing another Marvel movie. And despite Zak Penn being currently credited for the Avengers script, there’s a suspicion that they may have some input. (Right now, I doubt it.)
Anyway, point is that the Hulk, as has been discussed in many places for a while, would make a pretty good Avengers antagonist. He’d help sidestep the need to set up a new villain worthy of the super-team, and pose a significant physical threat as well. (As has been seen in more Marvel comics issues than I can count, as the Hulk has been a perennial go-to antagonist over the years.)
This is an idle discussion topic more than anything else right now, but it’s been a slow news week, so go for it. Can’t wait to see the comments list on this one.
