Now that Warner Bros. has officially kicked Michael Dougherty’s Trick ‘r Treat to the curb, the writer/director isn’t wasting a whole lot of time on hard feelings; Dougherty, as most writers do after being ass-raped in the world of feature films, is turning his attention to television. Hopefully, Dougherty will have more control on his upcoming series Bitches, a tale about four New York gals dealing with the trials and tribulations of lycanthropy.
Wait a minute, wasn’t that called Sex and the City?
Dougherty had the following thoughts to offer when shooting the shit with Shock Till You Drop’s managing editor Ryan Rotten:
“The idea [for the show] started years ago, this is my first dabbling with it and with the TV series,” he says. “I want to continue the tongue-in-cheek feel. If you’re a werewolf, it should just be another aspect of yourself you’re trying to deal with. You do want to explore those parallels of being a werewolf and human sexuality. How can you date and fall in love with someone when you’re a werewolf and you start to turn when you’re aroused?
“The funny thing is I have always had this weird obsession with female werewolves,” Dougherty told Shock Till You Drop. “Even going back to The Howling there’s that famous transformation sequence that Joe Dante did with the fire and lovemaking. To me that was indicative of female sexuality – all sexuality has this beastly side of it.”
Love the title, but I suspect it’ll be changed before it hits the airwaves. Dougherty said the network, Fox, hasn’t made a big deal about the title as of yet, but Dougherty has a few backup titles should someone get cold feet at the last minute.
Production is scheduled for early 2009, with a suspected debut next fall.
