Twentieth Century Fox has released the snazzy video above, showcasing the full title for their upcoming Independence Day sequel: it’s Independence Day: Resurgence.
In addition to that, Roland Emmerich and most of the cast took part in a lengthy Q&A on a moon base set where they revealed some interesting bits:
– all countries unite to fight a second wave of alien attacks, having had a huge leap in defense technology thanks to the crafts the earlier invaders had left behind
– Emmerich claims he never wanted to make a sequel, but the possibilities of the destruction VFX of 2012 inspired him
– Goldblum’s David Levinson is now the head of the Earth Space Defense
– Spiner’s Dr. Brackish Okun is still alive, he’s not playing a twin brother
– Bill Pullmann’s President Whitmore has a beard
– Judd Hirsch’s father of David tries to reach his son
– Liam Hemsworth plays a fighter pilot named Jake Morrison who gets exiled to the moon where he gets to drive this thing
– Jessie Usher plays Dylan Hiller, the son of Will Smith’s character
– it’s not said, but kinda implied that Will Smith’s character is dead
– Sela Ward is the President of the United States. Her name is Lanford and she’s a way tougher character than President Whitmore was
– an Asian actress named Angelababy plays a fighter pilot named Rain
– Maika Monroe plays Whitmore’s grown-up daughter Patricia, now a special agent working for the current president
– Vivica A. Fox’s character Jasmine Hiller is now (GASP!) working in a hospital
