For as much love as the last Mission: Impossible movie gets, I have a hard time remembering a whole lot of it. Maybe it’s because plot has become more and more secondary as these films have progressed, while the stunts and set pieces have become what everyone talks about. That’s fine. I remember the last film having a charm that the other three entries lacked, and it looks like Mission: Impossible – Rogue Subtitle is trying to recapture that while pulling off a delightfully cheesy “evil spy agency” plot. Groovy. Since James Bond has become deadly serious, it’s nice to see stuff like Mission: Impossible, Kingsman: The Secret Service and the upcoming The Man from U.N.C.L.E. take up the silliness slack.
I do hate the use of “Whole Lotta Love” in this trailer. Can we agree to retire Led Zeppelin from all commercials? I can’t hear most of their catalog without images of Cadillac cars zooming through my brain.
Mission: Impossible – Rogue One opens on July 31.
