Ever since Christopher Nolan ended his tenure with the Caped Crusader and Marvel monopolized the cinematic comic book experience, it’s been hard out here for a DC fan. Man of Steel was/is an incredibly divisive foundation for a DC movieverse, and its sequel is proving to be just as polarizing even before it’s been released.

Then, something started to happen: DC’s properties began to flourish at the CW (R.I.P. Constantine. We hardly knew you). I never got into Arrow due to its aesthetic still feeling mired in post-Nolan grittiness, but I’ve been assured that that attitude changes as the show has gone on. I’ve been devoted to The Flash from day one and firmly defend that it’s the best adaptation of the DCU since Justice League Unlimited ended its run.

Now, CW is going all in with Legends of Tomorrow, a team-up show that looks as cartoony as the source material it’s derived from. I love it. Lest we forget, these are characters intended for children and the young at heart, and this trailer looks like pure goofiness distilled onto the screen.

I’m surprised that DC’s shows have managed to look like better productions than the majority of Marvel’s television output (I haven’t seen Agent Carter, but Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Daredevil, regardless of their quality, both look pretty cheap), and I hope Warner Bros continues to put some serious money behind these shows.

Legends of Tomorrow will land some time in 2016. Start thinking about what characters you want to show up. I’m hoping for appearances by The Question, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Zatanna, and I’ll go full crazy and hope Kirby’s New Gods get mixed in.
