Zen Studios announced today that it has secured rights from Marvel to make a brand new Punisher game. Entitled The Punisher: No Mercy, it will be a first person arena-based shooter exclusive to the Playstation Network.
Powered by Unreal Engine 3, No Mercy was designed with fast-paced online multiplayer FPS action in mind. With inspiration rooted in the Punisher’s rich comic book history, the game allows players to choose from an eclectic mix of Punisher allies and villains. Battle arenas span from shipyards rife with contraband to the “birthplace” of the Punisher’s archenemy, Jigsaw, and up to eight players can blast away at each other in a variety of solo and team-based missions.
Those of you with no online friends, never fear. There will be a single-player Story mode (featuring exclusive artwork from Mike Deodato) that tells a story of Punisher teaming up with Silver Sable to fight villains.
Sounds good, right? But the only scary thing? The developers behind this game are the same guys behind that atrocious Rocky and Bullwinkle Xbox Live Arcade game that came out earlier this year. You know, the Warioware ripoff that contained none of the fun or humor from the show? Let’s hope they can do a better job at getting the feel of Punisher down.
