Umberto Gonzalez (formely known as Latino Review’s El Mayimbe) says he’s heard rumors of a planned upcoming ending to the Bryan Singer X-Men saga. Apparently, X-Men: Apocalypse and Wolverine 3 are set to be the final parts, but final parts of what exactly? Of the complete X-Men franchise?
It’ll probably be the end for all of the original X-Men. X-Men: Days of Future Past had Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Anna Paquin, Kelsey Grammer, James Marsden, Famke Janssen, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Daniel Cudmore, and Halle Berry in it. The upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse only has Patrick Stewart, and quite possibly, Hugh Jackman, and both of them are rumored to team up in the third Wolverine movie. But after that? It’ll be time to say goodbye to the originals.
It’s understandable that Jackman is finally losing interest in playing Logan. The intense trainings he has to undergo for each appearance are certainly hellish, and if he also has a cameo in the Deadpool movie, he will have played Logan ten times in seventeen years. Stewart and McKellen are seventy-four years old and seventy-five years old respectively, so don’t expect them to be involved in big action set pieces anymore. As for all the other ones, they all seem rather expendable to be honest. Young talents such as Evan Peters, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Kodi Smit-McPhee come without needs for a big paycheck, and both James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender have proven themselves to be perfectly fine leads for this. Which means Fox will probably continue on with the young cast, staying in continuity and refraining from rebooting the whole thing. The only thing they’ll obviously try to do is talking Jennifer Lawrence into putting on that uncomfortable blue body paint a few more times.
