Remember Konami’s P.T., the amazing little horror game that appeared as a freebie on the PlayStation Store? Sure you did. It was a playable teaser for a new Silent Hill game called Silent Hills, one that featured bot Norman Reedus’s likeness and voice for the game’s protagonist. Not only that, Guillermo del Toro and Metal Gear Solid mastermind Hideo Kojima had directed the short interactive experience and were planning on collaborating on the full game.

Well, Pyramid Head has gotten to it first. It’s dead.

At least that’s what both Guillermo del Toro and Norman Reedus say. At a Q&A event during the San Francisco International Film Festival, Del Toro confirmed that he’s no longer attached to Silent Hills. He told the crowd that he’s really heartbroken about it. Shortly after, The Walking Dead‘s Reedus tweeted his own confirmation, writing: “Super bummed about this was really looking forward to it. Hopefully it’ll come back around. Sorry everyone”.

Hideo Kojima hasn’t given a statement yet, but that isn’t really surprising lately. Kojima was finishing his latest Metal Gear Solid game when early rumors surfaced that he would be leaving the company after completion. In March, Konami removed almost all of the Kojima branding from Metal Gear promotional works. The usually very outspoken director decided to keep his silence during all of this, only confirming that he’d finish said game for the company. It’s possible that the ongoing conflict behind the scenes killed this, but only time will tell what really happened. The Silent Hill series is a huge brand and will obviously survive on its own. It’s just sad to see another promising Del Toro project disappear into nothingness, just like Insane which he had announced back in 2010.

In case you haven’t played the Silent Hills teaser (P.T.) yourself yet, better hurry up. It will expire on Wednesday, April 29.
