Someone over at Fox must be asleep at the wheel because not only did they purchase Doomsday Protocol, an original screenplay by Shane Salerno, they also spent seven figures on it!
WTF? Don’t they realize a spec screenplay doesn’t have a built-in audience? For shame, what will they do with a screenplay that doesn’t have any source material to rip off? Buying a spec screenplay is just a no-no these days!
But I digress…
Hopefully, Fox does something decent with it, especially when you look at how lousy their summer has been. They’re definitely in need of some redemption.
Back to the script itself: the story supposedly revolves around a group of aliens and humans with various abilities who are brought together to save Earth. Sort of a The Seven Samurai vibe with a sci-fi twist supposedly.
No details on a director or stars at this early stage, though.
I’m betting this doesn’t have a whole lot of “horror” to it, but if it has aliens in it might be worth a look down the road, if it ever sees production.
Salerno’s credits include Alien vs. Predator: Requiem, Shaft (2000), and Armageddon, but I won’t hold that against him. One’s a franchise that should’ve been put out of its misery years ago, and the others, well, he was heavily re-written on, or he wasn’t the only writer to blame.
