If you’ve played any of Scott Cawson’s three (!) Five Nights at Freddy’s games released since last August, you know that the concept of being trapped in an ersatz Chuck E. Cheese at night with a group of murderous animatronic mascots has great cinematic potential. Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, we now know that Warner Bros. intends to mine that potential. They’ve acquired the rights to adapt the game for the big screen, and Roy Lee, Seth Grahame-Smith, and David Katzenberg will produce.
Right now, they’re looking for writers, and I’m sure a director will follow soon. This oughta be interesting. The games are available on Windows, Android, and iOS. The gameplay is simple but effective, and it creates anxiety so effectively that it’ll have your heart thumping in no time.
Let’s hope Warner Bros. plans to capture that without adapting the game into a bland teen horror.
