Today, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Tron: Legacy stars Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde would be returning for the third Tron film (which some say will be called Tron: Ascension, but this is unconfirmed). Hedlund and Wilde will travel to Vancouver for production when shooting begins this fall. Joseph Kosinski is returning to direct, so we all know the film will look like an Apple product fresh out of the box (no one does that better than him). Legacy was a bit too sterile for most critics, but the film isn’t without its supporters and it made a decent haul at the box office.
I’d like to see Cillian Murphy return after his all-too-brief cameo in Legacy, and any loyal fan of the series will want to see Bruce Boxleitner come back in some capacity. I just hope this one doesn’t use the same look as Legacy, if only to freshen things up and keep the series from feeling stagnant. I’d also like to see a more propulsive story, but hey, I wouldn’t wanna get greedy.
