You can read it here, you can read it on his Twitter and Facebook pages, but here’s what you need to know: David Lynch has announced that he will not be directing more Twin Peaks due to budgetary disputes with Showtime.
But Showtime don’t take no shit, ya hear? About an hour after Lynch took to the web to air his grievances, Showtime put out this statement:
“We were saddened to read David Lynch’s statement today since we believed we were working towards solutions with David and his reps on the few remaining deal points. Showtime also loves the world of Twin Peaks and we continue to hold out hope that we can bring it back in all its glory with both of its extraordinary creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost, at its helm.”
At this point, it’s anyone’s guess as to what will happen between Lynch and the network. There’s a chance that the show may not even happen. It’s in their best interest to reach a deal with Lynch, but again, there could be all sorts of shenanigans happening behind the curtain.
We’ll keep you posted when we know more.
