“I’m very unhappy with the film… I never had a chance to do
one scene the way it was written or the way I wanted it to be. The
script wasn’t respected. Bad producers, bad partners, it was a terrible
experience.”
This is not what a studio wants the director of their latest film to be saying to the press in the days before that film’s release. But that’s what Matthieu Kassovitz, director of Babylon AD*, is saying about his movie. And he’s laying all the blame on Fox, saying that the studio fought him every step of the way on budget and in the editing room, chopping fifteen minutes out of the film that he felt was key to making it all make sense.
“I should have chosen a studio that has guts,” he says. “Fox was just
trying to get a PG-13 movie. I’m ready to go to war against them, but I
can’t because they don’t give a s–t.”
That’s a sentiment that’s all too familiar when it comes to genre projects at Fox. But you didn’t hear that from me.
