There are a few cartoons out there that I never experienced but find intriguing and kind of cool, even though I have no interest in ever watching them. Jem and the Holograms has always been a big one of those for me. The idea of a female-targeted superhero sci-fi rock and roll cartoon is pretty cool, and there seems to be a significant enough fanbase to the show. Guess that and some brand recognition is why we’re getting a live-action version. Jon M. Chu, director of two Step Up films and two Justin Bieber “films”, is at the helm, and the first group shot has been released in Elle Magazine.
I don’t have a dog in this fight when it comes to adapting the source material, but as far as truly outrageous fashion and colors, I’m down. This is a lot less somber than the teaser poster released, and if the film happens to be as kaleidoscopic and as 80s influenced as this picture seems to be, I say bring it on. It can’t be worse than another Transformers movie.
Jem and the Holograms hits screens on October 23. Prepare yourself to be inundated with people dressed as these characters this Halloween.
