That Chris Pratt is so hot right now, as Mugatu would say. After the one-two punch of The Lego Movie and Guardians of the Galaxy, this chiseled hunk of charisma could do anything he wants. He’ll be riding a motorcycle with his velociraptor buddies in this summer’s Jurassic World, and my inner ten year-old couldn’t be happier. Apparently, I’m not the only one flying high up in the Pratt-osphere. Always director Steven Spielberg has taken a liking to the recent leading man, and according to Deadline, wants to direct him as the titular character in the eventual reboot of Indiana Jones.
There’s some mixed feelings I’ve got on this one. Indiana Jones is a damn good trilogy (TRILOGY), and doesn’t need to become the American James Bond franchise it was originally conceived as. There’s also a strong argument to be made that Indiana Jones is a character so chemically bonded to his original actor that anyone else stepping in will either be doing an impersonation or will be dismissed outright by audiences for not being Harrison Ford.
However, if this is how this has to go down, it could be much worse. Until he proves otherwise, Chris Pratt is an ocean of charm that guarantees my interest in any project he does. And as much as the director of The Terminal has disappointed us in the last few years (TRILOGY), I’d love nothing more than to see him return to this franchise with a real winner.
Pitch us your Indy subtitles in the comments. I know Atlantis has been the front runner for a long time, but I’m going to throw my vote to either The Book of Thoth or The Fountain of Youth (heeeey, maybe that’s how this film ends up actually being a sequel?).
