Someone’s been watching Grindhouse!

The Wii really is the perfect system for light gun shooters. The remotes work just as well as one for an on-rails shooter, as the (shockingly!) fun Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles showed last year. Sega saw this for itself and soon released House of the Dead 2 and 3 on one disc, a nice move that would’ve meant more to me if I hadn’t played the shit out of House of the Dead 2 on the Dreamcast. (KARL!!!!!!)

But now the series is getting the first ever console-exclusive title, House of the Dead Overkill, coming to the Wii in the near future.

The series seems to have realized how campy it is (just play through House of the Dead 2 for some of the most hysterical dialogue you’ll ever hear outside of Barry Burton) and is now going for a “pulp take” on the series. You follow infamous Agent G and his partner Agent Washington as they head down to Louisiana to investigate some disappearances… and of course run into a whole other kind of problem.

This is a Wii exclusive title, which means that not only will the controls probably be perfect, but you can easily grab another remote and engage in some co-op action with a friend. You can see on these screen shots that there’s a score implemented, which means you’re going for the best shots… perhaps a little competition to go with the competitive mode.

There’s also two special moves at your disposal- “Slow-Mofo Time” to pull off some bullet time shots on your enemies, and “Evil Eye” that’ll allow make explosive elements in the environment glisten. There will also of course be Wii remote specific moves that you can pull off. Check out one of the execution moves you can perform when a creature gets too close-

Nice, eh? In fact, the title’s looking pretty damn good for a Wii game. How about this giant Quato-looking boss?

So, this announcement was definitely a nice surprise today. The Wii needs more original titles like this… it really does if it wants to survive in hardcore gamers’ hearts. We’ll let you know more about it when you hear it!
