Gentleman Broncos, the new goofily named sillyflick by Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre helmer/imagineer Jared Hess, doesn’t open until TBA, 2009. However, the makers are hoping to kick up some early interest in the film with a web site for the movie’s antagonist, sci-fi author Ronald Chevalier. In the movie, Chevalier poaches a story from a young fantasy writer who idolizes him and passes it off as his own. Jemaine Clement, from HBO’s excellent (and thankfully renewed) Flight of the Conchords, plays the rip-off artist. You can get a load of what they are doing with the character in the pretty funny video embedded below.
In keeping with the rip-off theme, this glimpse looks a little bit like the great Britcom Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace, which can been seen in the states from time to time. I’ll quietly out myself under this embedded video as a Napoleon Dynamite fan, so I’m looking forward to the flick. I’ve also giggled during reruns of the Everybody Loves Raymond and I laughed at something my cat did earlier, so don’t mistake my interest in the film as your own. However…Sam Rockwell will be playing the hero in the movie-within-the-movie fantasy sequences from both the true and stolen versions of the story. So, if this wasn’t on your radar, hopefully it’s living there now.
You can check out the web site for bodily fluid-obsessed Chevalier by clicking here.
