Hoo, boy. Some of you are gonna be miffed, but here’s what’s going on. Y’know that Evil Dead show Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell were talking about? Evidently, they weren’t just talking out of their asses (like they were with the promise of more Evil Dead movies). Starz just put in a 10-episode order for Ash vs. Evil Dead Dawn of Justice, and they’ve decided to go straight to series (because pilots are for chumps). The series will star Bruce Campbell and will premiere sometime in 2015, which means things are going to start happening very quickly for this show. Raimi himself will direct the first episode of the series, and good ol’ Rob Tapert and Ivan Raimi will serve as executive producers with Campbell. The series synopsis published to Deadline is disappointingly generic:
When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons –personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip.
The first episode was written by Sam and Ivan Raimi with Tom Spezialy, whose previous experience includes Chuck and Dead Like Me.
Now I’m gonna get a bit nerdy, and I’m sure other bloggers are thinking the same thing: the title is not Ash vs. The Evil Dead. It’s Ash vs. Evil Dead. The divisive remake helmed by Fede Álvarez was titled Evil Dead. Could this be the crossover teased during the credits of the remake? We’ll find out next year.
