Jai Courtney, star of the upcoming Terminator Genisys (yup) would like you to know that while the new movie may have hunter-killers dropping regular bombs, there will, in fact, be no “f-bombs.” A sign of the times, you see.
“I would love to see it be rated R, but I don’t think it will. I think in this day & age, it’s much more likely to be PG-13. There were no f-bombs. But there’ll be a healthy amount of movie violence.”
“You’re terminated, fucker,” is a pivotal line at the end of the first film—a story that understood the stakes involved with killer cyborgs running around in 1980s Los Angeles—so this makes me sad. These movies aren’t made for kids, despite the goofy sci-fi trappings. Adults deserve an action franchise with squibs and fucks and boobs and whatnot. It’s been too long. This one used to belong to us. No more.
Jai goes on…
“What I can say is that we start in a place we’re familiar with from the early films and then, you know, circumstances change. It somewhat shifts the course of events from that point,” he told The Huffington Post. “It’s not necessarily a sequel or a reboot. I don’t even know how you brand it correctly. We’re not remaking one of the early ‘Terminator’ movies. And it doesn’t necessarily carry on from the point where we left off.”
Most of the stuff we’ve heard about the film makes it seem like there’s a bit of Back to the Future 2-style storytelling, wherein the events from the previous films are revisited, sometimes by characters who’ve already experienced themĀ in the past. Get it? Make sense? So, no, not a reboot, just a film that does a lot of things that reboots typically do (i.e. recreate iconic moments) but with an increasingly convoluted time travel logic layered in. At least that part is in keeping with the franchise.
