I guess the response to that leaked test footage really lit a fire under some asses over at Fox, because Deadpool will finally arrive in US cinemas on February 16, 2016. February is an odd month for a comic book movie, normally because that month is a dumping ground for films that aren’t expected to make much money. No matter, because those of you who wanted Deadpool are gonna get it, and I’m betting you don’t really care what the release date is.
Although a deal isn’t in place, Ryan Reynolds will be reprising the role from X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Tim Miller will be directing. Fun Fact: Tim Miller is a visual effects artist, and was the creative director of that awesome title sequence in front of Fincher’s Dragon Tattoo. This X-Men spinoff will be his first feature.
In related news, Fox is screwing with its release schedule in big way. First, Assassin’s Creed has been bumped from its August 7, 2015 date to an undetermined date in 2016. Fantastic Four has been delayed from June 19, 2015 to that August 7 spot. Paper Towns, an adaptation of a novel by John Green (author of The Fault In Our Stars), will move into the June 19 slot, pushed up from its original date in late July.
