divinitylogoLarian’s Divinity: Original Sin is undoubtedly one of the most pleasant surprises this year, having stolen the hearts of a good few Chewers (mine included). The superb Kickstarter-funded isometric RPGĀ sprung up out of nowhere to instant acclaim, having sold more than 500,000 units since its official release in June.

Fans of the game now have even more reason to be happy, with Larian announcing on D:OS‘s Kickstarter page that a sizeable update with free DLC is now availableĀ via Steam and GOG. Apart from a range of bug fixes, the update will add ‘listening functionality’ that allows players to hear dislogue between characters and log these conversations for future reference, along with story-based tweaks and improvements to spell and skill effects.

The big news, however, is the addition of two new companions who will be able to join up with you in Cyseal:

divinity1

“Armed with her bow on her back and her claws at the ready, Bairdotr refuses to fail: She must navigate your world– a world of wonder and mysteries both fantastic and terrible– if she’s to save Homeforest. The druid of the forest has been kidnapped, and Bairdotr must follow a scant trail of clues if she’s to bring him back– clues that take her to the very heart of Rivellon’s Source conspiracy.”

divinity2

“Dark Sourcery deprived Wolgraff of his voice when he was but a kid, and with it his dream of becoming a Source Hunter. Refused by the Order, he grew up to become a rogue, stealing from the rich and giving to… just himself actually. His is a world of silence, but if need be he lets his dagger do the talking for him.”

I don’t know about you, but I reckon that Wolgraff guy looks like he could steal the shit out of some paintings.

D:OS has truly been a breath of fresh air, its old-school design and original approach to character (For the uninitiated: you actually play as two characters whose relationship arc you essentially ‘direct’ through making dialogue choices) providing one of the most enjoyable – if occasionally frustrating – experiences to hit PC gaming in the last few months. What’s more, with Wasteland 2 finally getting a full release in two days it looks like the renaissance of the isometric RPG is well underway. Consider our heartcockles throughly warmed.
