It was a pretty big deal for some reason when they changed the origin of the offending arachnid in Spider-Man from a radiation infused non-bug to a genetically screwed with subject. Admittedly, it always hurts when the source material gets messed with ( I still get all worked up about the lack of battle suits in Verhoeven’s Starship Troopers), but that particular switch made a lot of sense. Well, as much sense as you can make out of boy being bitten by a tampered-with something and acquiring it’s proportionate powers. They really should have cloned that spider.
