What’s Edgar Wright been doing since his departure from Marvel’s Ant-Man? Deadline gave us the answer earlier today: he’s been over at Working Title, sorting out arrangements for his next film, Baby Driver.
Deadline’s Mike Fleming describes the project as “a collision of crime, action, music and sound,” which is entirely too vague for me to postulate what Wright’s actually got in store for us. I assume it won’t be about a baby driving a car, but a man can dream. Perhaps it’ll be like the Muppet Babies version of Drive, featuring a diaper-clad pre-verbal Gosling. Maybe we can finally know how the Driver only learned five words.
As far as I can tell, Wright is the only credited screenwriter (so far), and his relationship with Working Title has been a fairly good one, so perhaps this will be a very pure Edgar Wright experience. I suspect that he was looking for a project in which he’d have a bit more control, and perhaps Working Title is willing to grant him that control.
The film does not yet have a release date, but Deadline reports that the film is on a “fast track”. I’ve never wanted a baby so badly.
