I left another director out of that headline, and it’s Quentin Depieux. That soundtrack has his name written all over it.
What are we to make of Gun Woman? It stars Asami, who was previously in The Machine Girl and the Rape Zombie quintology. Gun Woman isn’t some Canyons-esque bid for adult seriousness after years in the Disney woods. She’s been here before. Likewise, Japanese filmmaking has decades upon decades of unhinged, possibly tasteless crap, just like any country with a decades-old film industry. But what strikes me about Gun Woman is the tone of the trailer, which looks like a Brundlefly monstrosity of Hard Ticket To Hawaii or Picasso Trigger and the usual Yakuza stuff. Am I wrong?
Anyway, I may be giving the director too much credit. His last film looks like the kind of Tarantino wannabe crap that drives me crazy (complete with an Amanda Plummer cameo). QT knows Sidaris. This guy may not. If you’ve seen Samurai Avenger: The Blind Wolf and this is just the case of a poorly cut trailer, let me know.
Gun Woman has been out in Japan since February of this year with no release date for the States as of this moment.
