Here we are on the eve of Transformers: Age of Extinction, and wouldn’t ya know it, critics are saying it’s a real piece of shit. Who cares? Who even cares that it’s bad? Why would anyone devote enough cerebral processing power to generate an opinion? We all knew going in that it was a fucking Transformers film.
Yet even with all this negativity surrounding the imminent release of a movie about giant alien robots, somehow I can still smile at the promise of more Pacific Rim. Here’s the announcement, courtesy of GDT himself:
I know some of you will be kvetching about how Guillermo del Toro isn’t doing the smaller original projects you want him to do, but perhaps we should rejoice in the fact that del Toro is doing what he wants to do. A release date hasn’t yet been announced, but we should see it sometime in 2017. Zak Penn is writing with del Toro, with Travis Beacham consulting in some capacity (writing a treatment, I suspect). There you have it.
EDIT: According to TheWrap, the film will hit cinemas on April 7, 2017. They also confirm that it will follow Legendary over to Universal.
