I’ve always had a soft spot for movies that take place in underwater facilities. Something about rooms filled with water… It almost always looks great on camera, and it evokes some kind of deep fear in me. Even the awful Deep Star Six holds some of the same magic. But it’s movies like Deep Blue Sea and Leviathan that really do it for me.

Directed by George Cosmatos, Leviathan isn’t exactly a wonderful film, but it’s a damn fun one, and seems custom-made for my tastes. Underwater facility? Check. Jerry Goldsmith score? Check. Shape-shifting fish monster? Check. Peter Weller, Richard Crenna, and Ernie Hudson? Check, check, and check. It also features some impressive gore and creature effects courtesy of Stan Winston studios.

Thanks to the wonderful folks over at Scream Factory, Leviathan is finally getting a Blu-Ray, which we’ll get on August 19. Here’s the cover, which uses the film’s original key art:

While the cover’s attractive (dat ass), the contents of the disc itself are what brought you here. So here’s what Scream Factory has revealed:

• New Interview with Actors Hector Elizondo and Ernie Hudson
• New Interview with Creature effects artists Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff Jr.
• Original Theatrical Trailer

It ain’t much, but this isn’t one of Scream Factory’s coveted collector’s editions. I always like hearing from Gillis and Woodruff, and I’m really looking forward to their upcoming practical creature bonanza Harbinger Down. To pre-order the Leviathan Blu-Ray, click here.
