I’d say it’s fair to assume that most of you are like me in that you’re not freakish and are still making their way through Dark Souls 2‘s treacherous lands, or are at least exploring on after your first playthrough. Thankfully, we have no reason to stop anytime soon with Bandai Namco announcing a three-part DLC for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
This DLC will comprise three new chapters going under the overarching title The Lost Crowns Trilogy, sending players ‘on a journey to reclaim the crowns that Drangleic’s King Vendrick once owned’. These releases will be:
- Crown of the Sunken King, releases on July 22nd, and is set in what the press release describes as “an entirely different world within the Dark Souls 2 universe, where stepped pyramids span a vast underground cavern”;
- Crown of the Old Iron King on August 26th, set in “a massive tower engulfed by black mist where flames, smoke and sorcery lurk”, in which you “navigate paths that are not what they appear to be”;
- Crown of the Ivory King on September 24th, set in “an ancient temple wrung with freezing storms, towering walls and a hollowing emptiness… Challenged by forces that are one with the freezing elements, low visibility & esoteric abilities”..
Each installment will cost $10, with a Season Pass granting access to all three as they are released, available from today for $25.
Normally I avoid season passes like the plague, but if From Software can provide content comparable to the Artorias of the Abyss DLC for the first Dark Souls (which garnered raves on PS3 and was later incorporated into the Prepare to Die Edition) it could well be one of those rare passes that’s worth paying for in advance, especially with Crown of the Sunken King hitting around the summer sale period. Fingers crossed, we’ll get more details soon.
