StarWars.com has just broken the news that Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave) and Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth!) have been added to the already stellar cast of the J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII. Here’s what Kathleen Kennedy had to say:

“I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII,” says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “It’s thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape.”

I share Kennedy’s enthusiasm here. Nyong’o is a very strong choice, and the excellent Gwendoline Christie’s fan-favorite performance on Game of Thrones should lend some geek cred to Episode VII.
