I gotta say, I’m fucking shocked. I mean, what kind of movie does $93 million dollars (domestic!) and opens at number one worldwide on its opening weekend and gets a SEQUEL? How brash, how absurd!
All tomfoolery aside, Deadline broke the exclusive announcement earlier today that Legendary and Warner Bros. are already developing a follow-up to what may be one of the year’s biggest hits. What can we expect to see in a sequel? According to an interview with Screenrant, director Gareth Edwards said the following:
“I would say my second favorite film is Destroy All Monsters. I just love the idea of a monster island. Having a world with these creatures in it. I find that fascinating and would like to treat that realistically. I wouldn’t want to limit it to one other foe, I think it’s more fun to – this question will come back to haunt me if we ever do a sequel – but I think multiple creatures make better movies in terms of the image of Gojira.”
While I didn’t fall in love with the film, I certainly enjoyed my time with it, and I think the film purposely left us hungry for more screentime. What do you guys want to see in the next Godzilla?
