Several astute bloggers predicted this back when we first heard that a third Insidious was coming (and that James Wan would not be directing). Thanks to Wan, we now know that those predictions had some merit:

I’m excited to see what Whannell’s direction will bring to the franchise, but the zany tone of Chapter 2 left a bad taste in my mouth. The first Insidious worked best for me when it was trying induce a state of pure dread, so hopefully we’ll see a return to the haunted house creepfest I enjoyed so much in the first film.
