What follows is a spoiler for X-Men Origins: Wolverine. You’ve been warned.
Below this is a picture taken on the set of Wolverine (which I thought wrapped, but I guess not) that gives away a little something something from the movie. It’s not a major plot spoiler, and it’s not something technically ‘new’ for fans of the comic – and I bet it will be revealed in the trailer or at Comic Con or something – but in deference to the people who get up in arms about learning details of movies and yet keep coming to movie sites like this, I’m extending the verbiage to keep them from having to see the image right when they open the page.
Anyway, I found these photos via Coming Soon, and they’re at a Flickr account dedicated to Newcastle and Hunter Valley photographers. And they show Wolverine landing at Omaha Beach at Normandy on June 6, 1944. I say that because Wolvie is wearing the insignia of the 29th Infantry (a US infantry division, interesting for a Canadian), and that’s where they landed.
Wolverine’s age has been established in the comics, but the movies, as far as I can remember, haven’t really touched on it. For mainstream moviegoers this scene – possibly a prologue? – could be mind-blowing. Too bad Fox isn’t playing ball with Marvel Studios… what an opportunity for a Captain America mention or cameo.
