In a very tech-savvy move, HBO wisely uploaded the premiere of Mike Judge’s new show Silicon Valley to their YouTube channel. They did the same thing with the third season premiere of Girls, but this seems much more appropriate, given the show’s setting in the tech world.
The only caveat is that the video is Region-locked, and only currently available to those in the US. If you’ve got a spare 30 minutes, you totally should watch this. It’s got Mike Judge’s signature dry humor and timing, combined with a very fresh satire of Silicon Valley culture. It’s a got a great cast, and Mike Judge’s direction is strong, keeping the show visually interesting and surprisingly colorful.
The show’s humor is obviously targeted at nerds like us, but is broad enough to be accessible to those of us who don’t know any HTML. Admittedly, this premiere episode seems light on laughs, but they’re getting through a lot of setup and exposition. I think the show’s got a lot of promise, and I can’t wait to see where it goes. Silicon Valley is on HBO, Sundays at 10 PM.
