We don’t know much about Jurassic World, but what we DO know is that director Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) and the Universal execs are making some effort to not fuck it up. Trevorrow has been surprisingly open about the whole thing, especially on Twitter. So far, he’s revealed that the film will be shot in 3D on 35mm and 65mm, which will be difficult, but I’m sure it will look better than The Hobbit. The final product will be presented in a 2:1 aspect ratio, an uncommon choice in mainstream cinema these days, but recently featured in Netflix’s House of Cards. It also looks like VFX master Phil Tippett will work on the film in some capacity, which is kinda fuckin’ heartwarming. He’s the mad genius who helped ILM animate the dinosaurs in the original, which means he was credited as Dinosaur Supervisor, which is the best job title that has ever been bestowed upon anyone.
Now if that doesn’t get your inner cinema geek going, it looks like the film’s cast is really filling out, and here’s who we know will be in the film so far:
Chris Pratt – A new smart-mouthed action hero for a new era, his recent beefcake transformation for Guardians of the Galaxy surely helped him get the role. I think he’s a great choice.
Bryce Dallas Howard – The RonSpawn is playing the female lead, which is fine by me. I would watch her dig through dino shit any day.
Ty Simpkins – The Insidious and Iron Man 3 alum is filling out the requisite kid role in the film. It’s a Jurassic Park movie, after all.
Vincent D’Onofrio – The giant bug that is still wearing this guy’s skin will reportedly be stepping into a villainous role.
Irrfan Khan – This guy played the adult Pi in Life of Pi, and while we’re not sure what role he’ll play, I’m sure he’ll be just fine.
B.D. Wong – The only returning cast member from the original film, Wong will reprise his role as Dr. Henry Wu, a geneticist who left Isla Nublar before the shit hit the electric fence.
Omar Sy – Just announced today is the addition of this accomplished French actor, who starred in the 2011 critical darling The Intouchables. We’ll also see him as Bishop in the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past.
We know that Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum are out, and I’m just gonna go ahead and assume that they’re not looking at Vince Vaughn, William H. Macy, Trevor Morgan, or Téa Leoni.
Jurassic World stomps into cinemas on June 12, 2015, and as far as I know, production has yet to begin. We’ll let you know when some actual plot details start to surface.
