Well, this is one way to do a road trip.
It’s been over a year since Martin Hynes’s The Go-Getter played to mixed reviews at the Sundance Film Festival, but any movie that centers on a teenage kid hitting the open road and the delectable duo of Zooey Deschanel and Jena Malone* is due a theatrical release; ergo, Peace Arch Entertainment will do the NY/LA toe-dip on June 6th. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a PPV debut soon thereafter.
In case it’s not clear from the trailer (and you’re forgiven if certain, aforementioned elements prove more indelible than others), the film stars Lou Taylor Pucci as a kid who embarks on a road trip after his mother passes away. Lacking a car of his own, the young man steals a Volvo station wagon belonging to Ms. Deschanel; fortunately, she thinks this is cute, and plays along as he goes cross country looking for his long-lost brother. I see that Judy Greer and Maura Tierney turn up in this film, too. If Pucci gets busy with them as well, this kid’s got James Caan circa 1970s game.
Interestingly, The Go-Getter is being sold as the movie that brought Deschanel and M. Ward together (for their disarming musical collaboration She and Him).
